Bing (previously known as Live Search, Windows Live Search, and MSN Search) is Microsoft’s search engine.
While Google is the biggest, Bing at No 2, is constantly trying to overtake them. Now that Google is so widely used , it seems unlikely that even Microsoft’s deep pockets will enable them to catch up in the near future. They have even tried discrediting Google with their ongoing “Have You Been Scroogled” campaign.
But Bing also powers Yahoo Search results. So if you search from the Xtra home page, you will be getting Bing (Yahoo) search results, not Google ones. This is important as many NZ users are with Xtra and have the Xtra page set as their home page.
So do not underestimate the importance of Bing in the search market.
The Internet is fickle – remember Bebo, MySpace, AltaVista and Excite? Some of them were pretty big in their day too!
