MSN Live Search Results Changes
Date: 30 January 2008

Microsoft’s MSN have recently had a major update to their Live Search Engine – they say the biggest update since their debut in 2005.

New features of this update apparently include enhanced speed, word handling, auto spell correction, layout and usability of the interface and enhanced ranking algorithms.

This change has seen many sites drop in rankings in the Live Search Engine and conversely many also improve because of the change in the way they now rank things. Like when Google does it’s Google Dance, MSN does not divulge why rankings may change and what they consider important.

All you can really do is follow best practices (like having good text and content on your site) in order to try to stay up in the rankings. In future newsletters we will talk about some of the other factors that may affect search engine rankings.
