You may think I am being picky, but…
We have recently been researching some travel and found a number of things that make life harder for the user, and therefore less likely to make a booking with the difficult sites.
Here are some things I think web sites can do way better – in other words, what do I hate (or dislike or find really frustrating as a user?)
Note, I have focussed on accommodation but found similar frustrations with Tour companies, Tourist Information sites, Rental Car companies and other sites Continue reading
Are you sick of having all those passwords? A new Yahoo app aims to get rid of those by sending a notification to a user’s smartphone.
Not sure if that will work well or not but it is aimed at making things easier for Yahoo mail users and attracting more customers to this.
Yahoo mail had 190 million users in August 2015 while Google Gmail had 411 million and increasing.
More market dominance by Google!
If you are using Firefox as your browser you will have noticed numerous web sites do not fully work until you manually activate Adobe Flash. Trying to install the Flash upgrade also may not work. Flash is frequently used to display streaming video, advertisement and interactive multimedia content on web pages – the whole site will not be broken but images and video might be.
I have said this before but let me say it again!
Always use an enduring email address for domain records and Internet accounts
Now let me say that again!
Always use an enduring email address for domain records and Internet accounts
Do not use addresses that may go our of date and disappear! And ensure any address that you are using is always monitored for important messages. Continue reading
You can buy a domain extension in almost any flavour (eg the recent .nz extension we told you about).
But to show how extreme this is getting, the latest one to be released is .sucks! Would you want yourdomainname.sucks?
We suggest that it is probably not one that you really need to reserve for yourself!
for more info see this NZ Herald article http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=11453212
In previous newsletters we advised about reserving your .nz domain name before 30 March when you may have had Preferential Rights to it.
Now that this deadline has passed all remaining .nz domain names are available on a first come, first served basis.
So your competitor is able to register the .nz version of your business / website name if you haven’t.

Google has started informing site owners via their Google Webmaster Tools account if it thinks their site is not mobile friendly or has mobile usability errors. Whilst they are not penalising non-mobile friendly sites as such, they are promoting other sites over these. The effect is the same – your competitor’s mobile friendly site is likely to appear in search results above yours. Google’s new algorithm that will increase the use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal is due out on 21 April 2015.

This is a reminder that you have until 30 March to reserve or register the .nz version of your domain name. That is, if you have yourname.co.nz you may want to also get the new yourname.nz domain.
If you reserve this, you have until 30 Sept 2016 to decide if you want to register and keep it. It is free to reserve it until then and in the meantime it is protected for you.
We are recommending to all of our clients (and you) that they reserve their .nz domain name (s). Its unlikely that you will want to change over to this new domain for your website in the short term, but it is important to protect it. Continue reading
Have you registered or reserved your .nz domain name yet? And are your domain records up to date – if not get onto it now. You have until 30 March to protect your .nz domain name. If your domain record is not correct this may need dealing with first and that may take some time depending who your registrar is. It can get pretty complicated in some cases.
We can assist you with this.
